Top ratings in the latest CHE university rankings
Several economics programs at Clausthal University of Technology have once again received top ratings.
Internationalization is a top priority
“The results of the CHE ranking once again demonstrate the high quality of our degree programs. I am particularly pleased that the categories of internationalization and student access were rated so highly—both of which are areas that have traditionally been a top priority at Clausthal University of Technology,” emphasizes University President Dr.-Ing. Sylvia Schattauer. In the CHE Ranking, a portion of the degree programs is re-evaluated each year. In the latest survey, published in May, it was the turn of the subjects in the field of economics and law, which also include industrial engineering and business informatics.
The strong performance of Clausthal University of Technology’s economics programs also confirms the direction taken by the Institute of Management, Economics and Law (IMEL). IMEL increasingly integrates economic, technical, legal, and social issues within the context of the circular economy, sustainability, and digital transformation. The new institute was founded at the beginning of the year through the merger of the former Institutes of Economics and of Mining and Energy Law.
Interdisciplinary first-semester project bears fruit
“Through our economics programs, and in particular the Digital Management program, we combine fundamental economic principles with future-oriented topics such as digitalization, artificial intelligence, and interdisciplinary collaboration,” explains Prof. Thomas Niemand, director of IMEL and program director for Digital Management. A key component of this is the Interdisciplinary First-Semester Project (ESP). In this project, students from various degree programs work together from the very beginning in teams that are deliberately composed of members from different countries and disciplines. Together, they develop their own product—from the initial idea through the business model, market research, and project management to the technical production of a real prototype.
Svenja Schachten, Managing Director of IMEL and Project Manager of the ESP, highlights the combination of practical experience and teamwork: “The First-Semester Project enables students, right from the start of their studies, to jointly develop their own ideas and bring them to fruition as a finished product. It is precisely this combination of practical experience, teamwork, and personal guidance that makes the start of studies at Clausthal University of Technology special.”
