Sun, wind and waves: Volkswagen Foundation’s summer reception focuses on energy research
Hanover, 29 June 2026 – Yesterday evening, the Volkswagen Foundation hosted its traditional Lower Saxony Summer Reception at Herrenhausen Palace in Hanover. Under the theme ‘Sun – Wind – Waves’, numerous prominent figures from the worlds of science, politics and society gathered.
The highlight of the evening was a keynote discussion on Lower Saxony’s role as a driver of innovation in the energy transition:
Focus on research: Experts from the Energy Research Centre and the Institute for Solar Energy Research discussed technological advances.
Practice & the future: Representatives from enercity and the Ludwig-Franzius Institute shed light on urban energy supply and modern coastal protection.
The subsequent reception in the Gartenhof provided guests with an opportunity for in-depth scientific and interdisciplinary discussion.
Representing Clausthal University of Technology were Vice-President Prof. Dr Joachim Deubener, representing the Executive Board, and colleagues funded by the Foundation: Prof. Dr Rüdiger Ehlers from the Institute for Software and Systems Engineering, Prof. Dr Andreas Reinhardt from the Institute of Computer Science, and Prof. Dr Fabian Paetzel from the Institute of Management, Economics and Law. The political sphere was also represented, including Minister for Science Falko Mohrs and State Secretary Prof. Dr Joachim Schachtner.
