Philipp Rimpp Earns His Ph.D. with Top Honors

On April 15, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., Philipp Rimpp, M.Sc., took his oral doctoral examination in the Great Mining Lecture Hall. Numerous colleagues from the Institute of Management, Economics and Law (IMEL) as well as other supporters took the opportunity to attend the defense and accompany Mr. Rimpp on this special academic milestone.

The defense was overseen by an examination committee chaired by Prof. Dr. Roland Menges, who conducted the examination together with Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Pfau (primary examiner) and Prof. Dr. Thomas Niemand (secondary examiner).

During his presentation, Philipp Rimpp presented the findings of his dissertation, “Dynamic Business Model Evaluation: A Two-Stage Design Science Research Approach to Evaluation and Validation Using Simulation Gaming.” The thesis focuses on the development of a dynamic evaluation approach for business models in an increasingly complex and volatile business environment. To this end, a simulation environment in the form of a business simulation game was developed and used to generate, analyze, and quantitatively evaluate business models in a competitive setting.

Even beyond the defense, this special day was celebrated in the traditional manner: Following the examination, a procession of cars headed toward Adolf-Römer-Straße in Clausthal-Zellerfeld, before the day concluded with a convivial gathering at “Anno.”

With his dissertation, Philipp Rimpp has reached a significant scientific milestone. We warmly congratulate him on this outstanding achievement.
