IMEL 2026 Institute Meeting – New Board of Directors Elected
On April 14, 2026, this year’s departmental meeting of the Institute of Management, Economics and Law (IMEL) took place—the first such meeting since the merger on January 1, 2026, held jointly with Prof. Dr. Hartmut Weyer’s team.
Institute Director Prof. Dr. Fabian Paetzel opened the meeting and welcomed the numerous attendees. Following the institute meeting, Mr. Diego Andres Gonzalez conducted the annual safety training session for all employees. We thank Mr. Gonzalez for his clear and practical presentation, as always.
During the institute meeting, the positive development of the institute was highlighted. As a result, a stable financial situation was once again projected for the coming fiscal year. At the same time, both staff numbers and the number of third-party funded projects continue to develop encouragingly. However, the central challenge facing both the TU and IMEL—the persistently low student numbers—was also openly addressed. Under the guiding principle of the “IMEL Spaceship,” Prof. Dr. Fabian Paetzel provided motivation for the future. The “IMEL Spaceship” has now been commissioned and is ready for launch—it will fly as high as we all “turn the throttle,” Prof. Dr. Fabian Paetzel figuratively summarized the current situation.
A central point of the meeting was the election of the new Executive Board. All status groups were successfully elected, and the elected members accepted their positions. The Executive Board will be composed as follows in the future:
Professor Status Group
- Prof. Dr. Thomas Niemand (Director)
- Prof. Dr. Fabian Paetzel (Deputy Director)
- Prof. Dr. Winfried Steiner
Research Staff Status Group
- Lukas Noeßelt (Representative)
- Paul Fudalla (Deputy)
Status Group: Technical & Administrative Staff
- Svenja Schachten (Representative)
- Sabine Wuttke-Klein (Alternate)
Student Status Group
- Sara Shafiei Sarvestani (Representative)
- Ahmad Alaa Sharif Talib (Alternate)
IMEL would like to extend its sincere thanks to all staff members for their great dedication and ongoing support. Special thanks go to Prof. Dr. Fabian Paetzel for his work as Institute Director over the past years. We wish him every success in his upcoming research semester and are delighted that he will remain with the Institute as Deputy Director and an active member of the Senate.
In particular, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Joana Disselhoff for designing the new parent-child room. More detailed information on this project will follow shortly and will also be published on the website.
At the same time, we welcome Prof. Dr. Thomas Niemand as the new director and wish him every success in his term of office. We also wish the newly elected Executive Board and the student representatives a successful and constructive collaboration.
