2026 GOR Bachelor's Award for Anton Cortin
At the Institute of Management, Economics and Law (IMEL) meeting on April 14, 2026, this year’s Bachelor’s Award from the Operations Research Society (GOR) was presented to Mr. Anton Cortin. The award recognizes outstanding theses in the field of operations research.
Mr. Cortin, a graduate of the Bachelor’s program in Industrial Engineering at Clausthal University of Technology, impressed the committee with his thesis on “Implementation of Mixed-Integer Linear Programming for Dynamic Lot-Sizing.”
In his bachelor’s thesis, he thoroughly examined various challenges in dynamic batch size planning. In addition to the single-product case, he also investigated the single-stage and multi-stage multi-product cases and developed corresponding mathematical models. He independently implemented these models in FICO Xpress and subjected them to a comprehensive performance analysis.
A particular focus was placed on the systematic investigation of the models with regard to objective function value and solution time. Through the targeted variation of relevant parameters as well as the use and adaptation of benchmark instances from the literature, Mr. Cortin succeeded in gaining well-founded insights into the performance of the models.
The thesis is characterized by an exceptionally high degree of independence as well as a very structured and carefully documented implementation. The analyses conducted and the conclusions derived from them demonstrate a deep understanding of the problems addressed. Overall, the thesis demonstrates that Mr. Cortin has acquired far above-average expertise in the field of operations research during his studies and has produced a thesis that far exceeds the usual standard of a bachelor’s thesis.
The IMEL team warmly congratulates Anton Cortin on this well-deserved award.
