IBER becomes IMEL
The Institute of German and International Mining and Energy Law merges with the Institute of Economics to form the Institute of Management, Economics and Law
As of January 1, 2026, the Institute of German and International Mining and Energy Law (IBER) merges with the Institute of Economics at Clausthal University of Technology to form the Institute of Management, Economics and Law (IMEL). This new large-scale institute at Clausthal University of Technology will cover the energy and recycling industries from an economic and legal perspective. Our department at IMEL will keep its focus on the legal issues of sustainable energy supply, sustainable raw material supply, and the competitive structure of the economic system. In addition to analyzing the current legal framework, our research is particularly interested in evaluating alternative legal options. The already highly interdisciplinary work of IBER will be continued and expanded with the merger. The new institute structure allows in particular for a deepened cooperation with the economic sciences (business administration and economics), which should result in relevant projects, publications, and contributions to the transformation of the energy and raw materials supply system.
