Invited Lecture by Prof. Dr. Roland Menges in Goslar

On January 22, 2026, Prof. Dr. Roland Menges delivered an invited lecture in Goslar on the topic “The Common Good and Collective Decision-Making” as part of the “Limits to Growth” lecture series (organized by Prof. Dr. Benjamin Leiding).

In his lecture, Prof. Menges examined the theoretical and practical challenges of democratic decision-making processes. He discussed the tension between individual preferences, majority decisions, and the common good. In addition to classics of welfare theory (such as the Arrow theorem), the lecture also connected to current debates on collective rationality and alternative economic models such as the Economy for the Common Good.
